OUR GALLERY AT 1010 MCLEAN RD.
Initially conceived as a private gallery the directors and curator team immediately saw the promise of a contemporary art center as both physical and symbolic gateway to become a multidisciplinary private artistic organization—“one where free expression, independent thinking, and vital interactions among leading artists and cultural figures with students and academic experts would exemplify the ideals of a democratic society.” At the same time, the directors of
SikoraArts
recognized the importance of courageous ideas and creative practice to building a vibrant, innovative, and diverse community as well as a highly educated, motivated, and entrepreneurial workforce. Akin to a European “kunst Halle” (arts space without a permanent collection), the Gallery area has been designed with purpose-built flexible space to accommodate interdisciplinary artistic exploration—including new genres yet to be imagined.
In 2017, SikoraArts Gallery
opened after an extensive renovation of its venue in 1010 McLean Rd. The Gallery immediately attracted local attention for its bold contemporary mission. An unlikely experiment in the heartland of a semi-rural township --Cortlandville. SikoraArts Gallery
is dedicated solely to Abstract art has been hosting pioneering artists whose achievements exemplify the pinnacle of daring innovation, bold intellect, and creative brilliance.
SikoraArts
is named in honor of John Sikora, our Maecenas. John Sikora was a great visionary of the arts in Cortland County and a major donor to the gallery. He is the father of Robert Sikora our Chairman and founder of the organization.
Immediately staking its claim among vanguard institutions, the gallery’s inaugural-year programs featured such artists as Ralph Turturro, Ralph Jean-Baptiste, Martha Phillips; not surprisingly, SikoraArts Gallery
garnered coverage by the Cortland Experience Travel & Leisure an official publication of the NYS government.
In February 2019 SikoraArts Gallery
opened a collaborating exposition of abstract art at Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden, NY
